True story. Happened to us. I was checking my bank stuff on line and see 5 charges on the Debit Card that aren't ours (that I know of.) Try to call husband. No answer. Dash to bank. They close in 15 minutes. Talk to bank manager. She puts a lost/stolen freeze on the card. Tells me call husband again, see if he made the charges (not likely) and tell him don't use the card because the police will be called if someone tries to use the card with the lost/stolen freeze on it. Try to call him. His phone is off. Dash to where I know he is at 5:20 p.m. on Monday. Ask him about the bank card. He says he's "pretty sure" its in his wallet. Opens wallet. Pulls out card. IT IS SOMEONE ELSE"S CARD!!! Seems the cashier at a pizza place got the husband's card mixed up with another customers! Whoa!
The husband's card has check ID written in red sharpie on the back! None of the charges were under $25 which I was told required a signature.
OK. Being the mostly nice person that I am I figure the other person is just as much clueless as we were and probably wasn't out to burn us. I find the name in the phone book and dial him up. The wife answers. I give her a quick run down about what happened. She asks her husband to look in his wallet. (I can hear him in the background.) He says something about it not being his card and no wonder the cashiers had him go "no pin" so he could complete the transactions! For crying out loud.
So the wife says he'll meet me at branch bank that has hours until 7. He doesn't show up in the 10-15 minutes waiting window I give him and there is no branch manager in anyway.
Tomorrow morning I'll be back at my bank with his card and hopefully get this straightened out. I think some sort of action should be taken against the cashier that messed up in the first place, 2 husbands that never noticed they had the wrong card, the McDonald's in Baldwin, Family Fresh in Hudson, Arby's and the other two places that took our card "no pin," no ID.
All this in my "spare time." Heavy sigh.
