The garden is winding down. 'Bout all we have left is pie pumpkins and some 'mators. The tomatoes had a hard year. Way too wet then way too hot made for some nasty mold type stuff. Most people I talked to around here lost about 1/2 of their tomatoes. I got 12 quarts canned though. Also have 7 pints salsa, 5 pints bread and butter pickles and 4 pints pickle relish. The pickle projects were done with the "straight 8's" Garrett grew, not pickle cucumbers. The items are tasty but the cukes are soft not crunchy like you'd expect.
The lettuce didn't last long enough. The carrots were a bit of a disappointment. The broccoli "bolted" and the peppers (7 plants) grew one pepper and lots of pretty foliage. I've frozen 12 cups of pumpkin pulp and expect to quadruple that by the time the pumps are done.
I'm planning on using some of the tomatoes I canned to win the chili contest this winter during the Hot Air Affair. More on that later!
