When you foster, I was told, the dog is vet checked, spayed or neutered, you get everything you could possible need to be a good doggie foster.
When I got the phone call about the unexpected 8th dog I also got the news that she was not ready to foster, technically. She was not vet checked. Did I mind providing transportation? Not a big deal. About 30 miles round trip. Oh, she has to be spayed. This trip was about 90 miles round trip. Bigger deal. The night before we were to pick her up there was "1 more thing."
She's in heat. Seriously?!? For those of you who don't know what that means, it's doggie speak for she can get pregnant and is bleeding. That means she basically can't go anywhere an unneutered male dog could even get close to her. It also means that she can't be spayed for approx. 4 weeks after it ends and it could last 3 weeks! Not to mention the doggie diaper, which she did not like! Remember, she's a breeder release and they don't need protection. Their only purpose is more puppies.
